Eric Medhurst maintains a studio of students from beginners to the ARCT level, and has submitted hundreds of students for Royal Conservatory exams and music festivals with excellent results. Over his teaching career he has also taught theory, including keyboard harmony and other subjects.
Eric's principal teacher was Elsie Bennett. His further studies with Marek Jablonski were devoted to Chopin repertoire. He spent some time with James Anagnoson studying duo repertoire.
Mr. Medhurst has given workshops for The Conservatory on new technical requirements and on piano pedagogy.
Among Mr. Medhurst's adjudicating venues have been Kiwanis Stratford, the Davenport Festival, the Milton Festival, and festivals in Oshawa, Richmond Hill, Walkerton, and others.
As duo pianists Eric and John Graham have given about seventy-five performances over a twenty-year period. Mr. Medhurst has given master classes on Chopin repertoire at CAD, and performed many solo recitals at CAD before its closure.
Since 1972 Eric Medhurst has been the organist and choir director at Graceview Presbyterian Church. He is a composer of choral works, and serves as the accompanist for Let There Be Music community choir. Mr. Medurst collaborated on the creation of the new Organ Syllabus and also created keyboard harmony papers for Royal Conservatory Examinations.
