Upon graduating from Memorial University, Marcella Osmond taught in the school system for one year, then left to set up her own private piano studio. She taught every age and level, from beginner to adult, preparing students for exams, festivals, and university entrance. Marcella operated this studio until moving to Victoria, British Columbia in 1993.
At Memorial University she studied piano with Maureen Volk.
Ms. Osmond has conducted workshops related to preparing students for examinations on behalf of Royal Conservatory Examinations.
She has served as an adjudicator for music festivals in Newfoundland, Labrador, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and British Columbia.
Marcella Osmond has participated in a varied roster of professional activities: she has works published with Waterloo Music and with Boosey & Hawkes; her choral arrangements have been recorded and performed internationally; and her writing includes articles for music magazines. Additionally she was a consultant for a Piano Teacher's Pedagogical Guide Book. Throughout most of her career Ms. Osmond has been a church organist and choir director, and for ten years she was the music director of a large church, producing and directing annual full-scale, staged musical productions. The award-winning Newfoundland choir, Shalloway, has honored her by establishing a scholarship in her name in recognition of her work with young musicians. Marcella's work in music-related fields has resulted in her inclusion in the Encyclopedia of Newfoundland.
