Born in Budapest, Gábor Takács-Nagy started his musical career as a violinist. He was founding member and leader of the acclaimed Takács Quartet, founded the Takács Piano Trio, and co- established the Mikrokosmos string quartet. Following a long line of Hungarian musical tradition, he subsequently turned to conducting. He is Music Director of Manchester Camerata and also holds the roles of Principal Guest Conductor of the Budapest Festival Orchestra, Principal Artistic Partner of the Irish Chamber Orchestra, and Professor of String Quartet at the Haute Ecole de Musique in Geneva. Maestsro Takács-Nagy is considered one of today’s most authentic exponents of Hungarian music. In 2017, he was awarded the prestigious Béla Bartok-Ditta Pasztory Prize.
The Glenn Gould School (GGS)’s Royal Conservatory Orchestra (RCO) is widely regarded as an outstanding ensemble and one of the best training orchestras in North America. Part of the Temerty Orchestral Program at the GGS, it consists of instrumental students in the undergraduate and graduate programs of The Glenn Gould School. Graduates of the RCO have joined the ranks of the greatest orchestras in the world.
