  • Ordering Tickets to the Ceremony

    To Order Tickets

    Tickets for the Vancouver Convocation Ceremony must be reserved directly with the Chan Centre Box Office. Please phone the box office at 1.604.822.2697 or reserve online. You can pick-up your guest tickets on the day of the event at the Chan Centre Ticket Office, located at The Chan Centre for the Performing Arts on the west side of the building across from the Rosegarden Parkade.

    Due to the popularity of this event and limited seating, not all ticket requests may be accommodated. To avoid disappointment, please make sure to request your tickets as early as possible. Please note that students can receive a maximum of 2 tickets (not including the student's ticket) and teachers can receive a maximum of 1 ticket to this event.

  • Vancouver Convocation Day

    Registration
    Registration activities begin at 10:30 am.  Enter via the main doors of the Chan Shun Concert Hall, The Chan Centre for the Performing Arts, 6265 Crescent Road, where you will be directed to the TELUS Studio Theatre for registration by RCM Staff.  Arrive no later than 11:45 am for registration activities.  In addition to preparing for the Convocation ceremony, the registration period provides a wonderful opportunity for you to meet your fellow graduates and have your graduate portrait photo taken.  Please note that parents and guests are not permitted to join graduates in the registration area.   

    Lunch
    Lunch (for graduates only) will be provided between 11:00 am and 12:00 pm.  Lunch is included in the registration fee.

    Please make sure to indicate any food allergies or dietary restrictions on your online registration for Convocation.  If you have severe food allergies, then we highly recommend that you bring your own lunch to avoid potential illness.

    Gowns, Hoods, and Honour Cords
    The Royal Conservatory will provide you with an academic gown, hood, and honour cord for the ceremony.  Gown, hood, and honour cord rental is included in the registration fee.

    Please be mindful of what you wear, as the gowns are open at the front and your clothing and footwear will be visible to the audience.  Button-front shirts and dresses will help keep the hoods in place.  A magnetic pin will also be supplied to you to ensure that your hood hangs properly.

    Tickets
    All guests must have a ticket to enter the hall.  Graduates will need to book guest tickets by contacting the Chan Centre Box Office. Please phone the box office at 1.604.822.2697. Tickets can be picked up from the Chan Centre Ticket Office on the day of the event.

    Reception
    Following the Convocation, Graduates and their guests are invited to an informal reception.

    • Check-in and register inside the TELUS Studio Theatre

    • Confirm that the information on your Ceremony Card is correct (you will be provided with this card at registration)

    • Pick up gown, hood, and honour cord

    • Proceed to Lifetouch photographer studio for photos (prepare to pay $30 sitting fee - all methods of payment are accepted)

    • Return to the TELUS Studio Theatre before 12:00 PM to receive final event instructions from RCM staff

    11:00am-12:00pm

    • Lunch (graduates only) is served in the TELUS Studio Theatre

    12:00pm

    • Marshalls line up Graduates and Gold Medalists

    • Wear you honour cord and carry your hood over your left arm

    • Make sure you have your Ceremony Card

    12:45pm

    • Marshalls lead the Graduate and Gold Medalist procession to the Chan Shun Concert Hall

    12:55pm

    • Graduates and Gold Medalists are in ceremony position outside the hall

    1:00pm

    • Ceremony begins

    2:45pm

    • Ceremony ends and Marshalls lead Graduates and Gold Medalists out of the Chan Shun Concert Hall

    • Post-ceremony reception begins in the Glass Lobby of Chan Shun Concert Hall

  • Vancouver Photography

    After you have checked in and registered, you will be directed to our on-site professional photo studio. The Royal Conservatory has engaged Lifetouch Canada, specialists in graduation photography, to take individual portrait photos from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.  You will need to pay a $30 sitting fee by cash or cheque payment (made payable to 'Lifetouch Canada') in order to take your individual portrait photos.  The sitting fee payment will be collected by the Lifetouch photographer on the day of the event.

    Individual photos will be available for purchase directly from Lifetouch after the ceremony. 

    Please note that if you wish to have your photo taken, you must arrive no later than 11:30 am to sign in and be fitted with a gown, hood, and honour cord.

  • Your Diploma
    Your Diploma will be presented to you at Convocation.  If you do not attend Convocation, then your Diploma will be printed and mailed to you based on the information on file before January 1, 2020.

    The Royal Conservatory offers a selection of specially designed frames and mats to showcase and protect your Diploma via Tempo Framing Systems, specialists in academic certificate framing.  Frames will be shipped within two to three weeks of the order date and are subject to applicable shipping and handling fees.
  • General Information

    The Convocation ceremony celebrates student achievement over the previous calendar year.  All students who complete their Diploma requirements between January and December will graduate together. 

    This includes:

    • ARCT candidates who completed the Diploma program requirements within the January, April, June and August 2019 Examinations sessions

    • Licentiate in Piano Performance candidates who completed the Diploma program requirements within the January, April, June, and August 2019 examination sessions

    • Glenn Gould School and Early Childhood Music Education students who completed their diplomas and certificates in Spring 2019

    • LTTA Mentor Artist-Educators who completed their certification in the 2019 calendar year

  • Graduation Checklist

    Before Convocation Day

    • Register to attend.  The online registration form will allow you to select the location you wish to graduate, order your gown and select your lunch option. If you have severe food allergies we suggest you bring your own lunch to avoid potential illness. 

    • Reserve your guest tickets. 
      You will need to book guest tickets to this event. Graduates will not require a ticket.

    • Order your diploma frame.

    On Convocation Day

    • Ensure your guests have their tickets. Guests without tickets will not be admitted into the hall. Tickets will be held at the Koerner Hall box office.
    • Arrive between 10:30 am and 11:45 am to register, pick up your regalia (gown and hood), and have your photo taken. Enter via the Bloor Street entrance on the west side of the building (accessible)

    • Join us for lunch (graduates only) between 11:00 am and 12:00 pm.

    • Graduates will be marshalled into ceremony order starting at 12:00 pm.

    • The ceremony will begin at 1:00 pm with the procession of graduates and medalists into Koerner Hall.

    • Join your guest at the reception - this is a good opportunity for family photos.

    • Return regalia following the convocation ceremony to avoid charges.

    • Arrive on time. Convocation is a busy day filled with multiple complex logistics. We want everyone to enjoy the event to the fullest and therefore ask all graduates to arrive on time to ensure everyone can participate and fully appreciate the ceremony.
