ARC Ensemble Earns JUNO Nomination

The ARC Ensemble, The Royal Conservatory of Music’s ensemble-in-residence, has been nominated for a 2018 JUNO Award. This is the second time the ensemble has been nominated for a JUNO, among the most prestigious prizes in Canadian music. ARC is also a three-time Grammy Award nominee.

“This nomination is at once an incredible honour for the ARC Ensemble and also a wonderful acknowledgement of its work recovering and performing music banned under the Nazi regime and lost during the turbulent years that followed,” says Simon Wynberg, Artistic Director of the ensemble.

ARC received the nomination for its sixth album, dedicated to the works of Polish composer Szymon Laks. Prior to the nomination, the recording had already earned rave reviews from critics around the world. The Guardian praised the ensemble’s “sparky playing” while the Financial Times hailed its “lively performances of a selection of delightful compositions.”

The JUNO nomination for the ARC Ensemble is one of 78 nominations received by alumni and faculty of The Royal Conservatory. Artists and groups with a connection to the RCM have been nominated in 90% of all JUNO categories, affirming the broad impact of The Royal Conservatory’s internationally acclaimed music education programs.

The ARC Ensemble is made up of senior faculty and acclaimed alumni of The Royal Conservatory’s Glenn Gould School. One of Canada’s leading cultural ambassadors, the ensemble has performed on great stages throughout Canada, the United States, Europe, and Asia, and its recordings have been broadcast around the world.

The 2018 JUNO Awards will be handed out in Vancouver on March 24 and 25.
