“Without The Royal Conservatory, I would have never learned the mathematics of music.”

Legendary rock artist Burton Cummings was one of three incomparable Canadians honoured at the 2017 Royal Occasion

On Wednesday, May 10, in this momentous year, Canada’s sesquicentennial, we paid tribute to our outstanding ensemble of past and present Honorary Fellows and recognized their remarkable contributions to music and the arts. It was an evening of music, community, and celebration in support of The Royal Conservatory as well as a time to pay tribute to this year’s Honorary Fellow recipients: rock and roll legend Burton Cummings, internationally acclaimed tenor Ben Heppner, and philanthropist Henry Hung.

"So blessed to receive this fellowship - just to be associated with this music,
it’s something that goes beyond anything else." - Ben Heppner

"By nurturing future talent, we’re ensuring the legacy of the RCM,
and continuing the gift of music for generations." - Henry Hung

"Without The Royal Conservatory, I wouldn't have learned the mathematics of music,
and that's why I'm in front of you tonight." - Burton Cummings
