I am a singing teacher and professional soprano, with a doctorate in Voice Performance specializing in vocal pedagogy from the University of Toronto. For the past seventeen years I have taught private and group voice lessons, and my masters and doctoral work has helped me ground my approach in both tradition and contemporary voice science. In addition to my private studio, I have taught or guest lectured for numerous institutions, including The Glenn Gould School, The University of Toronto, The Royal Conservatory in Scotland, and Mount Allison University where I was also the director of the Opera ensembles. I adjudicate regularly, and have led workshops in pedagogy, vocal technique, performance skills, and song interpretation. My passion is helping people express themselves through singing; all singers are welcome – young auditioning professionals, teenage amateurs, beginner/struggling singers. I enjoy working with all levels and across a wide range of repertoire - classical, musical theatre, jazz, and pop. I strive to connect with each individual student, finding language, repertoire, and approaches that are meaningful to them, as we work together to achieve their goals. My students have been awarded prestigious solo opportunities and recordings, acceptance into performance programs in Canadian and American universities, awards and scholarships from festivals, and consistent honours and first-class honours marks in RCM exams. Anonymous student evaluations of my teaching stress my enthusiasm, kindness, and drive for excellence. For example: “the teacher had high expectations yet was very encouraging. A thoroughly rewarding class”; “She was so patient and helpful throughout”; “kind, caring, passionate, encouraging”; “Lessons were always productive. I felt like I learned something in every lesson.” If you would like to explore your voice, see what you can achieve, or just polish up some new audition repertoire, I would love to be your coach!
