My name is Katelyn Bird and I am the Artistic Director at Crashcat Studios. I am reaching out to inquire about renting a room for after school private music lessons. We have a home studio located in Holland Landing but have a few students looking to have lessons in the Vaughn area.
I specialize in voice but have training in piano, acting, music theory, and dance. My goal is to offer music lessons that promotes creativity and joy especially after the last years of uncertainty.
I've had formal music training since I was eleven years old and have been a voice and junior piano teacher for six years. Music embodies every part of my soul and body; there isn't a day when I don't breathe music. Every year I am so thankful for my students and am inspired by their work. This year I hope to grow my studio and create a community where we can share the gift of music-making as a collective!
I have my BMus (Honours) in Vocal Performance (2019), an Artist Diploma in Vocal (2022) from The Glenn Gould School, Royal Conservatory of Music and my Grade 8 piano from the Royal Conservatory of Music with First Class honours. I am also very knowledgeable about the Royal Conservatory of music's exam program and music festivals/performance opportunities in the area. I believe that a teacher who continues to expand their knowledge is a teacher who is present and willing to put in the work to give their students the best and most informed education. I am passionate about pedagogy and expanding my resources to share my breadth of knowledge with you. I achieve this through vocal pedagogy courses, teaching resources development, and investing in books/music. My most recent studies have been with Dr. Shannon Coates, attending the POPUP Voice Pedagogy class on the Contemporary Voice, Voice and the art of teaching, and a two-week pedagogy practicum on the Child and Adolescent Voice. (Yes, even six-year-olds can benefit from Lessons!) These courses have given me so many tools to help singers of all ages and experience levels, and I love that we get to customize the lessons to your needs as an artist! Every music lesson experience is created for you, using unique practice tools, exercises, repertoire, language, communication, and body/mind awareness.
Lastly, as a performer, I can use my experience to better aid the work that needs to go into getting performance ready. I understand the difficulties and challenges that come with performing, and that means I stand in solidarity with you and hope that I can use my experiences to support and uplift you.
