Penny Johnson

I am Penny Johnson, a solo pianist based in St. Catharines, Ontario. I hold a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance from the Manhattan School of Music, as well as Master of Music and Bachelor of Music degrees from the Eastman School of Music. Active as a performer, teacher, adjudicator, clinician and presenter of historical talks about great pianists, I also create content for my YouTube channel. These videos are devoted to the keyboard works of J.S. Bach, whose music I love to perform. My teaching style is friendly, playful and encouraging and focuses on having passion and a sense of wonder for the piano. I believe that it's important for teachers to demonstrate at the piano during lessons (many do not), so that students can hear different concepts and watch how using the body one way produces a completely different sound than when it's used in another manner. I believe that every student has an individual voice at the instrument and I try to match my teaching to the personality of each student.
