Longtime Donors Get Behind GGS Master Class Program
RCM Donors Stephen and Jenifer McDonald

Thanks to the generosity of Jenifer and Stephen McDonald, The Glenn Gould School will expand and enhance its lauded Master Class program, beginning in the 2021-2022 academic year.

For music students, master classes provide what are often once-in-a-lifetime experiences that can set off a series of creative discoveries. The vital funding provided by the McDonalds will have a lasting impact and profoundly affect the music-making of GGS students for years to come.

The McDonalds’ gift will support all GGS master classes as well as the Master Class Portal, an online archive of video recordings of GGS master classes. Available to all students and alumni, the Master Class Portal ensures that exceptional teaching moments are captured and made accessible for years to come.

A new event, the annual Dean’s Master Class, featuring high-profile, internationally renowned artists from a variety of disciplines, will be added to the master class schedule. These unique learning opportunities will help to reinforce GGS’s place as one of North America’s premier music schools while giving students unparalleled access to some of the world’s foremost artists.

“Music education is particularly meaningful to us as a family” says Jenifer McDonald, an RCM board member whose early years of piano study were rooted in the RCM curriculum. “Our family could not be prouder to play a role in deepening foundational learning experiences by supporting this core aspect of training. It is our hope that in its newly expanded form, the GGS Master Class Program will continue to nurture and inspire the next generation of leading musicians.”

"The exceptional master class program is one of the cornerstones of The Glenn Gould School. Nowhere else do students receive so many invaluable opportunities to perform and learn from a cross-section of experts in the profession,” says Dean James Anagnoson. “Jenifer and Stephen’s generous support will have a significant impact on the program by enabling us to consistently bring to Toronto the finest internationally renowned artists in various disciplines. These public master classes are sure to be memorable for students and audiences alike, and they will be captured on video to share in future years. We are deeply grateful to Jenifer and Stephen for their support.”

GGS Alumni and members of the public are welcome to observe our master classes free of charge. To find out more information and to RSVP visit the website
