GGS alumnus Godwin Friesen (BMus ‘20, ADP ‘22, piano), was the Grand Prize winner of the prestigious Orchestre symphonique de Montréal (OSM) competition, including a cash prize of $20,000 and a coveted opportunity of performances with the OSM and a residency at Queen Elisabeth Music Chapelle in Belgium.   

GGS alumna Yanet Campbell Secades (ADP ‘22, violin) was selected as an inaugural fellow of the London Symphonia Fellowship program at the University of Western Ontario. She will receive regular mentorship from London Symphonia members and join the main stage full orchestra programs for the 2022-2023 season. 

Hannah Crawford (2022-23 Rebanks Fellow, soprano) received Second Prize at the COC’s Centre Stage Ensemble Studio Competition. River Guard (2020-21 Rebanks Fellow, tenor) tied for Third Prize, with Korin Thomas-Smith (2020-21 Rebanks Fellow, baritone) also a finalist. 

Recent appearances for voice alumni include: Sydney Baedke (2019-20 Rebanks Fellow, soprano) as Female Chorus in The Rape of Lucretia (Britten Pears Arts / Royal Opera House); Meghan Lindsay (PDP ’09, soprano) as Dido and Mireille Asselin (PDP ’07, soprano) as Belinda in Opera Atelier’s Dido and Aeneas; and Nofar Yacobi (2018-19 Rebanks Fellow, soprano) as the Queen of the Night in Magic Flute at the Vienna Volksoper. 

Tiffany Tsai (BMus ‘23, violin) received one of the Hnatyshyn Foundation’s Awards for Exceptional Emerging Performing Artists. Mariya Orlenko (BMus ‘21, piano) was chosen as one of 10 grant recipients from the Hnatyshyn Foundation’s “Ukraine-Heritage, Spirit and Future” program. 

Lucy Fitz Gibbon (ADP ’13, soprano) and Ryan MacEvoy McCullough (ADP ’13, piano) released The Labor of Forgetting featuring art song and works for solo piano by American composers, under the False Azure Records label.  

Camilla Montefusco (2021-22 Rebanks Fellow, mezzo-soprano) recently performed a program of Canadian and Latin American folk music titled “The Folk Within Us” in Winnipeg (Prairie Debut). 

Orin Laursen (ADP ’19, violin) was appointed Concertmaster, Southwest Florida Symphony.
