Koerner Hall Superstars in Free Online Benefit Concert

Over the last 11 years, The Royal Conservatory’s season gala concerts have featured some of the biggest names in music and entertainment: Yo-Yo Ma, Bill Murray, Lang Lang, Meryl Streep, Audra McDonald, and Wynton Marsalis are just some of the artists who have graced the Koerner Hall stage.  

Restrictions on public performances have meant that The Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) has had to reimagine its season gala for 2020-21. On October 17 at 8 p.m. EDT, the RCM is proud to present The Resounding Concert, a free online benefit event featuring a host of international superstars who have performed at Koerner Hall and have become its worldwide ambassadors – see the list of stars announced to-date below. 

Although the livestream is free, the season gala is a major fundraiser, so The Royal Conservatory is deeply grateful for donations supporting the Fund for Koerner Hall.  Despite the current indoor gathering restrictions, Koerner Hall has proceeded with presenting its 2020-21 concert season through a combination of in-person (to a maximum of 50 people) and livestreamed performances.    

“Since opening in 2009, Koerner Hall has presented over 1000 concerts with a vast range of Canadian and International superstars who have taken their performances to new levels as a result of the Hall’s exceptional acoustics.  Koerner Hall has placed Canada at the forefront of concert presentation and has become central to the non-commercial music ecosystem of Ontario,” says Mervon Mehta, Executive Director, Performing Arts at the RCM.  “COVID-19 has devastated countless performance opportunities for both local, national and international artists, and we want to do our part to keep performing artists working.  Proceeds from The Resounding Concert will help us to do so.”
