The Royal Conservatory mourns the loss of Aline Chrétien
The Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) sends condolences to former Prime Minister Jean Chrétien and his family on the loss of Aline Chrétien, who passed away at the age of 84 on Saturday morning at their home in Shawinigan, Quebec.

Among her many successes, Mrs. Chrétien became an accomplished pianist, studying music as an adult through the RCM Certificate Program. She also played a key role for many years as the Honorary Chair of The Royal Conservatory’s National Advisory Board.

Mrs. Chrétien was additionally a leading supporter of the RCM’s Learning Through the Arts (LTTA) program, helping to offer opportunities for students to experience music and arts in schools.

Shaun Elder, Executive Director of LTTA, said that, “Aline Chrétien helped draw attention to our program by hosting and speaking at events in Toronto and in Ottawa. One of these events showcased the results of a research study that demonstrated how LTTA has had a significant impact on inclusive participation in multi-racial, multi-lingual schools. The event served as the springboard to take LTTA from Toronto to five other regional sites from coast to coast.”

Aline Chrétien was an exceptionally kind and gracious individual who had a sincere and genuine concern for others. This fundamental generosity of spirit enabled her to communicate the importance of our work in a way that resonated with people across the country.  We were immensely fortunate to have her support and I am deeply saddened by her passing.
