Jana Skarecky studied piano with Erhard Schlenker and composition with Barrie Cabena and Peter Sculthorpe. She is an active composer and recipient of numerous commissions, and her compositions have been performed in North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. She has been chair of the Association of Canadian Women Composers and on the National Council of the Canadian League of Composers. She is an Associate Composer of the Canadian Music Centre, and the translator of Janeček's Foundations of Modern Harmony. She has been a member of the Conservatory’s College of Examiners since 1991, and part of the RCM faculty since 1985.
