Peter MacKinnon teaches The Royal Conservatory Syllabi in piano and theory (all subjects and levels) as well as organ and harpsichord. He is also a vocal coach.

His influential teachers included Patricia Holt for technique and theory, Carlina Carr for repertoire, Michael Fleming for accompaniment, and above all, Douglas Bodle, the venerable Canadian pianist/organist who taught the credo: "Make every note beautiful."

Peter has conducted many exam workshops and presentations for The Royal Conservatory and for ORMTA, numerous local workshops and master classes, and exam preparation seminars. He presented several papers in the United States and Canada for the College Music Society.

He has been examining with The Royal Conservatory for nineteen years. His most recent adjudication is with the Stirling Music Festival.

Among his past and current performance activities, Peter includes continuo playing and accompaniment, many years as a church organist, and periodic recitals. In his work he puts an emphasis on correct performance practice. He is the Director of the Trent University Madrigal Singers and the former director of the Coventry Singers of Peterborough.

He was Director of Music Emeritus, Peter Robinson College, Trent University, where his roles included administration, leadership, and performance.
