Behrang Khalili

Behrang Khalili is a contemporary composer, pianist, and music educator residing in Coquitlam. He was a former lecturer at the Art University of Tehran in the faculty of composition for more than eight years. Behrang has been teaching music to adults and young children for over 19 years. He is keen on motivating children by using different tactics through careful planning. He believes that children’s natural inclination to music can be served as a tool to unlock their full potential. In 2007, he received his master’s degree at Art University of Tehran and completed two certificate diplomas in piano performance and pedagogy from the Tehran Conservatory of Music. In 2013, Behrang was an award winner for one of his orchestral compositions is named “Gray” at the 28th Fajr International Music Festival. Moreover, he received a scholarship from the Art University of Tehran to continue his master’s degree. In 2017, he designed a educational grading system for classical and world instruments, and music composition, known as VCME. In addition, he composed various orchestral and electronic music, analyzed two well-tempered clavier books composed by Johann Sebastian Bach, and wrote a journal article about the pitch organization in Second Viennese School. In 2019, he developed his unique compositional technic and new system in pitch organization with a combination of Neo-romantic music in the second half of the twenty century, and Traditional Iranian Modal Scales is Neo-Iranian music. In 2021, he stablished the Vancouver Conservatory of Music as the first educational music centre with grading systems for world instruments and music composition. Also, as a certified Smart Start teacher, he is helping parents and children to enhance early childhood development. (Smart Start program developed by Royal Conservatory of Music helps children to improve their cognitive skills through musical skills) He is currently teaching VCM, RCM and ABRSM syllabus including Piano performance, Music theory, Rudiments, History, Harmony, Counterpoint, Analysis at Vancouver Conservatory of Music. He combines professional German, Russian techniques and modern teaching methods to make the music lesson fun and to reward developing musicians. Email: [email protected]
