Pianist, Carol Fifield, received her MM in Piano Performance from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana, her BM in Piano Performance from Converse College, Spartanburg. South Carolina, and her High School Diploma with Concentration in pPiano from the North Carolina School of the Arts, Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She has also pursued doctoral studies at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She studied piano technique in New York, New York for two years with Edna Golandsky. Her performances with orchestra and ensemble include: the Spartanburg Symphony, Greensboro Philharmonic Band and the Cardinal Trio. Master classes include: Guido Agosti, Jerome Rose, and Jose Feghali. Ms. Fifield’s teachers include: Joseph Kalichstein, George Lucktenberg, Zadel Skolovsky, Edna Golandsky and John Ruggero. Ms. Fifield feels that to successfully teach the piano one must always be open to new ideas, methods and approaches. Art is not stagnant therefore the artist should always seek opportunities for growth and improvement, which may avail themselves in many forms. Ms. Fifield’s students have received superior ratings and highest honors at all levels of the district and state divisions of the NCMTA Contest Festival, have performed on several Focus on Piano Literature events at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro and at the William S. Newman Artists Series Master Classes at UNC Chapel Hill, NC; her students have been selected to attend the Eastern Music Festival and have won such competitions as The East Carolina Piano Competition, The Piano and Organ Distributors Scholarship Competition, the Gardner-Webb Concerto Competition and the Meredith College Chopin Competition. Ms. Fifield’s students have placed four times as winner, alternate and honorable mentions at the NC state level of the MTNA Senior Piano Performance Competition, have also placed in the Peter Perret Talent Search, Winston-Salem, NC and the GSO Youth Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition. They have been accepted to major music schools in the United States including Eastman School of Music, Indiana University, Bloomington, IN, New England School of Music and The Esther Boyer College of Music, Temple University. Ms. Fifield has used the RCM curriculum in her studio and teaching for the past 20 years. Ms. Fifield has had numerous students test at several levels up through Level 10 of the Practical Examinations, receiving First Class Honors with Distinction, First Class Honors and Honors. In 2022 Ms. Fifield had three First Class Honors Level 10 Practical Examination results. These three students received ARCT eligibility and are now working towards their ARCT Examinations. In 2022 she also had three students who received First Class Honors with Distinction in their practical exams at levels seven, five and four and two students who received First Class Honors at levels five and four of their practical exams. She also, has her students complete the RCM Theory curriculum. Her students have received high marks at various levels of these theory examinations. Ms. Fifield is the director of Gateway Piano Studio of Greensboro, NC which was founded in 1993 and maintains a full piano studio.
