A solid foundation is fundamental to my teaching philosophy. I believe students should be given essential and technical tools that would enable them to fully express themselves musically. Lessons are generally structured, yet there is always room for flexibility and attention in certain areas. I recognize the uniqueness in each student, thus I strive to meet each student's individual needs. Ultimately, making music should be fun and enjoyable. I believe that patience, encouragement, creative challenges, and practice tips are important to keep the student motivated at lessons and at home. As versatility is also vital to my teaching, a solid foundation includes exploring a variety of musical styles - classical, modern and popular. Ear training and music theory are integrated during the lessons, as it is important that students develop a critical ear and understanding of the music (theory) in order to evaluate and assess themselves during practice. Without being given the proper practice techniques, progress is hindered. After all, students spend most of their time away from the teacher. The ultimate goal of my teaching is to develop musicians who are not only well-rounded and well-equipped, but are able to teach themselves and others.
