Chamber Ensembles are an opportunity to take collaborative music-making to the next level. With the instruction of their coach, students learn to communicate effectively within a small ensemble, fostering teamwork, active listening, and adaptability while working towards a unified musical vision.

In these smaller groups, such as string trios and string quartets, students will explore new repertoire, possibly playing with collaborative pianists and other orchestral instrumentalists. Below are examples of chamber performance pieces from previous years:

  • Presto from Quartet in D Major, K 157 by W.A. Mozart
  • Ancient Dance and Airs by Respighi

Students should have at least one year playing experience in Intermediate or Advanced orchestra, and placement auditions are required. Students not enrolled at The Oscar Peterson School of Music are also welcome to join but will be required to submit an entrance audition.

Chamber Ensembles will be scheduled Saturdays or possibly on weekday evenings as needed.

PREREQUISITES:

Violin, viola, cello, and bass: playing at RCM Certificate Program Level 6+ or Suzuki book 6-10.
