Guitar: Learn to Play (Ages 6-11)

Learn to Play - Introduction

The Suzuki method is incorporated into the teaching of this course, easing the way for young minds to learn the fundamentals of the guitar, and the diverse musical world it inhabits. Students will learn everything from the care of the instrument and proper posture to developing the physical technique needed to be able to learn simple melodies and chords. Students will also learn how to read tablature (if the group is advanced), 3- and 4-string chords, and basic note reading.

Please note: A consistent parent or guardian is required to be in attendance at each class to facilitate learning and to guide home practice. Students must bring their own guitar.

Learn to Play - Intermediate

Intermediate Guitar builds off of the skills learned in Introductory Guitar, with an emphasis on reading classical music notation. Students will learn how to play melodic lines and arpeggios, discuss meters and note values, and learn how to strum and sing along to songs in class, working towards an end-of-term recital and/or recording to take home.

Prerequisite: Introductory Guitar | Learn to Play (School Aged), or permission of the instructor.
