Pedagogy: Vocal Music Pedagogy and Conducting (AQ)

Explore vocal technique, vocal pedagogy, stages of the adolescent changing voice, and conducting gesture, as we seek to train, inspire and empower singers. Together, we will challenge core assumptions about the choral medium as we consider how to engage inclusive practices in the vocal music classroom and the choral ensemble, while creating together.

The AQs in Intermediate/Senior Vocal Music are programmed as 60-hour (10-day) intensive courses in the summer over three weeks to allow days off for completion of independent work. AQ candidates complete some components online and independently by the conclusion of the course.

These courses are also offered as unique certificate programs without AQ designation. We provide a blended model consisting of 10 days of face-to-face instruction with some space in the schedule to allow for completion of individual assignments, online work, and vocal practice.
 

PREREQUISITES

• Intermediate/Senior Vocal Music 1: ability to read music at RCM Level 8, and to sing in tune; for AQ, must be OCT registered in Intermediate or Senior division
• Intermediate/Senior Vocal Music 2: successful completion of Intermediate/Senior Vocal Music 1 from the RCM or another provider; for AQ, must also provide teaching experience form showing at least 1 year of successful classroom experience verified by a supervisor
