Brazilian Samba: Level 1

Open the door to the sounds of Brazil! Learn traditional Brazilian music through the study of Samba de Raiz - hand drumming, vocal techniques, and body movement. Develop musicianship skills, using fun oral and aural devices together with hands on playing of typical samba instruments: pandeiro, rebolo, tamborim, surdo, reco reco, atabaque, chocalho, cavaquinho, and more. Students will study the repertoire of the Samba de Raiz or Pagode tradition. All instruments provided or bring your own. 

Brazilian Samba: Level 2

Simbora Batucar! Learn how to play the instruments of the Brazilian bateria ensemble, from the Escola de Samba tradition. Further develop your rhythmic sense, your aural and oral music skills, your musical memory, and your ensemble playing while exploring the exciting music of Brazil's Carnaval culture. Instruments studied include the caixa, repenique, tamborim, surdos, chocalho, agogó, atabaque and more!. Level 1 is not a pre-requisite, but if you are a beginner to the genre consultation with the course director is recommended. All instruments supplied or bring your own if you'd like!
