Course Description
Learn to Sing: Jazz - Level 1
This course will explore the rich and varied tradition of Vocal Jazz performance.
Each week we will be investigating the work of vocalists that have influenced and contributed to the Jazz canon, greats such Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, and many more.
Students will be expected to learn the basics of vocal production, breath management, tone production, history, context of Jazz tradition, a basic comprehension of rhythm, basic improvisation techniques and performance practice. Music reading skills are not required but strongly recommended.

Learn to Sing: Jazz - Level 2
This course revisits the fundamentals established in Learn to Sing - Jazz Level 1 with a strong focus on performance practices such as mic technique, stage presence and lyric analysis. We will also be exploring advanced forms of improvisation and vocal expression by analyzing seminal improvised vocal and instrumental jazz performances.
Students will be expected to have completed Level 1 or be able to demonstrate comparable experience. Students should also expect to perform and improvise each class. Music reading skills are not required but strongly recommended.
Prerequisite: Learn to Sing – Jazz Level 1, or comparable experience.
