The once-in-a-generation Japanese prodigy plays Schubert’s “Grand Duo” and other works at her Koerner Hall debut with pianist Chelsea Wang.

Born in 2011 in Japan, Himari has captured the attention of the classical music world with her incredible technique, playful and imaginative interpretations, and ability to convey emotional depth - all from the unique and refreshing perspective of a young artist. Himari is one of the youngest-ever applicants at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where she studies with renowned teacher Ida Kavafian.

In 2025, Himari was signed as an exclusive recording artist with Decca Classics - the youngest-ever female artist to join the British label. Her debut EP, recorded with pianist Chelsea Wang, features Waxman’s “Carmen Fantasy,” Amy Beach’s “Romance,” op. 23, and Kreisler’s “La Gitana,” and showcases Himari’s exceptional musicality and technical command. Himari’s performances have garnered millions of views online, where she has built a dedicated community of over 100,000 subscribers on YouTube. The Japanese media company TV Asahi made a documentary about Himari, which has been viewed over five million times. Himari has also been named a Classic FM Rising Star.

Praised by The New York Times as an “excellent young pianist,” Chelsea Wang has appeared as a soloist and chamber musician throughout North America, Europe, and Asia, in venues including Carnegie Hall, Kimmel Center’s Perelman Hall, Konzerthaus Berlin, Taipei National Concert Hall, and more. She has had the honour of playing for many notable musicians and chamber groups, including Sir András Schiff, Richard Goode, Jonathan Biss, Miriam Fried, Leonidas Kavakos, and Emerson Quartet, among others. Last season she played with violinist Ray Chen in Koerner Hall.
