Opera Atelier presents: Pelléas et Mélisande

With acclaimed soprano Measha Brueggergossman Lee in the role of Geneviève,  bass-baritone Douglas Williams as Golaud, bass-baritone Philippe Sly making his Opera Atelier debut as Arkel, and mezzo-soprano Cynthia Akemi-Smithers as Yniold. 

Opera Atelier premieres its distinctive new production of the dreamlike masterpiece, Pelléas et Mélisande, fully staged at Koerner Hall, TELUS Centre for Performance and Learning. Directed by Marshall Pynkoski and choreographed by Jeannette Lajeunesse Zingg, the production features an extraordinary cast, Artists of Atelier Ballet, and David Fallis conducting Tafelmusik. 

A newly-reorchestrated score by Dr. Christopher Bagan, one of Canada’s finest young performer-scholars, blends Baroque tradition with 20th-century avant-garde techniques, creating a version of Pelléas uniquely suited to an orchestra steeped in 17th-century French music.
