Chicago trumpet great Orbert Davis brings his acclaimed septet to Koerner Hall for a high-energy, deeply expressive tribute to Miles. Opening the evening is Toronto Tenor Madness, a powerhouse saxophone ensemble led by John Johnson.
Emmy Award-winning trumpeter, composer, and educator Orbert Davis is co-founder, conductor, and artistic director of Chicago Jazz Philharmonic (CJP), a 55+ piece symphonic jazz orchestra dedicated to bringing together audiences of diverse backgrounds through multi-genre projects. Over the past 30 years, Mr. Davis’s mission-driven career has evolved successfully to being a true leader in Chicago’s arts and culture community. He is widely respected in not only all things jazz, but also for the distinctive ability to use his musical talents to make positive impacts on society through arts education and advocacy.
Juno Award winner John Johnson is one of the most in-demand musicians in Toronto. A highly respected session player, John is proficient on all the saxophones from sopranino through baritone, as well as piccolo, flute, alto flute, clarinet, and bass clarinet. He joins forces with an all-star lineup of fellow tenor sax players in a tribute to Coltrane and Sonny Rollins.
