"One of the best pianists of his generation" (
Philadelphia Inquirer), the RCM alumnus and Artist-in-Residence Stewart Goodyear performs Ravel’s shimmering Piano Trio, Brahms’s richly expressive Piano Quintet, and his own quintet with the New Orford String Quartet.
Proclaimed "a phenomenon" by the
Los Angeles Times, Goodyear is an accomplished concert pianist, improviser, and composer. He has performed with, and has been commissioned by, many of the major orchestras and chamber music organizations around the world. His recent commissions include an orchestral work for the Chineke! Orchestra, his Piano Quintet for the Penderecki String Quartet, and a piano work for the Honens Piano Competition.
The New Orford String Quartet has been described as “nothing short of electrifying” (
Toronto Star). The quartet has seen astonishing success, giving annual concerts for national
CBC broadcast and receiving unanimous critical acclaim, including two Opus Awards for Concert of the Year, and a 2017 Juno Award for Best Classical Album. Recent seasons have featured return engagements in Chicago, Montreal, and Toronto, as well as their New York City debut on Lincoln Center’s Great Performers series. First violinist Jonathan Crow has joined as the RCM’s new violin faculty member and the Director of the Orchestral Program at The Glenn Gould School.
