Loved VOCES8? Then you will love this British vocal ensemble featuring some of the UK’s finest consort singers, directed by Owain Park.

Praised for their imaginative programming and impeccable blend, The Gesualdo Six joined forces in 2014 for a performance of Gesualdo’s Tenebrae Responsories in Cambridge and has since gone on to perform at numerous major festivals around the world. Notable highlights include a concert in the distinguished Deutschlandradio Debut Series, performances at renowned venues including Wigmore Hall (London), Miller Theatre (New York), the Sydney Opera House, and their debut at the BBC Proms in 2023. Last season, The Gesualdo Six made their South American debut in Colombia, and appeared in Japan, China and Singapore for the first time.

The group is joined by trumpeter Matilda Lloyd to present a stunning program, titled Radiant Dawn, that explores different shades of light through music. Works from the Golden Age of polyphony by Tallis and White are juxtaposed with modern compositions by Roxanna Panufnik, Alec Roth, and Deborah Pritchard. Highlights include Sir James MacMillan’s O radiant dawn, an evocative setting from the composer’s ‘Strathclyde Motets’, alongside Richard Barnard’s Aura, co-commissioned by the artists.

“I can vouch for the timbral magic: Lloyd’s trumpet moves from being a luminous beacon to melding with the voices like syrup.” (Gramophone)

Please join us! This concert is preceded by a short performance by talented students of The Royal Conservatory. Prelude Recital starts at 2pm.
