Alexander Purcell

Alex brings professional performance experience, RCM qualifications, and a warm personality to his contemporary music lessons. He was trained at a young age by the Royal Conservatory on the guitar and piano. He excelled through examinations and recital performances at an advanced level. He comes from a working musicians background of live performance, and is a busy sideman working in ten bands at any given moment. He plays a variety of music, such as jazz, pop, folk, and classic rock music, and a variety of instruments such as guitar, piano, bass, drums, and vocals. He graduated with honours from the Humber College Contemporary Music Program (Bachelor of Music), and has been a full-time music teacher for 9 years on piano and guitar. In the past few years he has toured various countries in Europe as a session musician. Every student that Alex works with has a unique personality, and Alex has developed a variety of teaching methods to accommodate these diverse musical interests. Ultimately his goal is to demonstrate that learning music is an infinite source of joy. There are many tools such as theory and ear training that will benefit his students as they get deeper into music. Flexibility is a key feature in Alex's lesson plans so that his students can find their musical passions. Alex will provide crucial support and direction to help his students on their personal musical adventure.
