Allan McPherson

I believe in teaching students the fundamentals of the instrument in a musical context so they develop the skill to play the music they want to play with confidence and ease. My goal is to develop independence from the very beginning so that students develop the ability to learn new music and to continue to improve their playing on their own after they've stopped taking lessons. My students have achieved honours and gold medals in Royal Conservatory of Music exams and been accepted into Saskatchewan honour bands and the Saskatoon Youth Orchestra.

I studied music and music education at Mount Allison University and the University of Victoria. I studied clarinet with Jean-Guy Boisvert, David Bourque, Keith MacLeod, and Patricia Kostek. I studied voice with Signi Murgatroyd, and I am currently studying with Garry Gable. I teach clarinet up to an RCM grade 8 level, flute and piano up to an RCM grade 5 level, and saxophone and oboe up to RCM grade 3. I have a B.Mus. in music education from the University of Victoria, and I am a Registered Music Teacher with the Saskatchewan Registered Music Teachers' Association I have over ten years' experience, having been both a public school teacher in BC and Alberta and a private music teacher in Saskatoon.
