Aurora Wai, a Chinese-Canadian classical musician, is a BEd student at the University of British Columbia. She is a graduate from the University of Victoria’s School of Music, having received a BMus with a major in Music Education Secondary (Instrumental emphasis). While studying at UVic, Aurora studied piano under Bruce Vogt and Michelle Mare. She also sings and plays a multitude of instruments including violin and trombone in varying genres. Aurora currently teaches piano and violin, focusing on students’ interests and making sure they have fun.
Aurora currently is a member of the Canadian Armed Forces as a musician. She was principal 2nd violinist in Surrey Youth Orchestra’s (SYO) Symphonic Strings (2015/16 season) and Senior Orchestra (2017-19 seasons) under the instruction of Ben Goheen and Joel Stobbe. She also was principal percussion and French horn in the SYO Senior Orchestra (2019-2020 season).
At Burnaby North Secondary School (2015-2020), Aurora participated in marching band, senior band, choir, and jazz band. When studying senior band, choir, and jazz band, Aurora was under the instruction of Ingrid Stitt-Balchen for four years. In the school, Aurora served as a Music Council member, a section leader, and a leadership student.
