I am an gold medal RCM-certified classical guitar instructor and performance anxiety coach with over 14 years of experience as a private teacher, and seven years of experience teaching guitar in a university setting. I have worked as the classical guitar professor at Wilfrid Laurier University Faculty of Music in Waterloo, ON, in 2020, and teach the guitar studio and lecture there while maintaining my busy home studio in downtown Toronto. I completed my Doctor of Musical Arts in Guitar Performance at the University of Toronto in 2022, where my dissertation focused on music performance anxiety (stage fright) on the classical guitar. I have given guest lectures on this subject at the University of Toronto, McGill University, Mount Royal University, and the University of West Indies, Trinidad and Tobago, to name a few, and established the first undergraduate course on music performance anxiety at Wilfrid Laurier University as of Fall 2022. Many of my students have been accepted to the top music programs across the country, both at the Bachelor's and Master's levels, and have won top prizes at local and provincial music festivals, including top prizes at the OMFA provincial music competition in the Grade 9, 10, and Open Level Categories. My students have also received the RCM Gold Medal award for the highest exam mark in the province. I have also served as an adjudicator at the Canada West Performing Arts Festival, the FCMF National Music Competition, and several local music festivals across Ontario. I love watching players of any level succeed, and I make sure to build their confidence while being clear and direct about how they can improve their playing to ensure maximum ease, efficiency, creativity, and musical enjoyment and expression. My approaches are informed by my doctoral research, which delves into neuroscience, psychology, mindfulness, and pedagogy. My performance experience has led me to give concerts for the Toronto Guitar Society, the Vancouver Classical Guitar Festival, the National Arts Centre Fourth Stage, the Alte Schmiede Kunstverein, Vienna, Austria, and in various locations across North America, Europe, and Japan. I have placed as a finalist in major competitions such as the Montreal and Hamilton International Guitar Competitions, and also placed second at the National Music Competition in Edmonton, Alberta, in 2016. I also won first prize at the Open Level of the OMFA provincials in both 2014 and 2016. My debut album, entitled "Inspirations", features several premiere recordings of new virtuosic works for guitar by Canadian composers, many of which were composed for me. Inspirations is available on Spotify and all streaming platforms on January, 2022 and has received positive reviews from WholeNote Magazine and CBC Radio's "Album of the Week" with Paolo Pietropaolo. I currently teach lessons online and in-person in my downtown Toronto studio. If you would like to learn more about my teaching and would like to book a trial lesson, or book and schedule lessons with me, you can do so directly through my website at https://www.danielramjattan.com
