Diana Woolrich

I love to cultivate a curiosity about the wide world of classical voice repertoire; to help students build healthy vocal habits for a secure technique; to explore the student's imagination about the stories they tell in song; and to encourage solid musicianship skills for independent music-making. I have a Bachelor of Music with Great Distinction in vocal performance from the University of Regina , and completed the classwork for a masters in music theory. I was the co-founder and conductor for 18 years of Juventus Choir Inc, an auditioned, national award-winning upper voice youth choir. I have 35 years of experience in teaching and of adjudicating voice in district and provincial festivals in Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Alberta, and I have also presented at SRMTA provincial conferences. During my teaching career, students in my studio have been awarded 80 RCM medals. I have a working knowledge of Italian, French, German and Spanish texts, IPA, and diction, and an abiding interest in lesser-known but exciting vocal repertoire, especially by women composers. My professional development is ongoing; I have attended many choral and vocal conferences over the course of my teaching career, and I continue to educate myself through online masterclasses and conferences. In 2010 I was asked by RCM to advise on the upcoming Resonance syllabus and songbooks. I am still, after a long career, excited to teach enthusiastic beginners through to ARCT students. All my lessons are attended by experienced and talented collaborative pianists.
