Hilary Amante

Hilary Amante

A skilled freelance musician based in Calgary, AB, Hilary performs for several major concerts and events throughout the year. She currently plays flute and piccolo with the Alberta Winds (where she also serves on the board in a marketing role), as an extra with the Calgary Civic Symphony, on flute/vocals for weddings and special events with the Amante Duo, and as a vocalist with the award winning a cappella ensemble, Altra Volta. Hilary carries a rich musical history with diverse experience and is a valued active member of the music community in Calgary.

Hilary has performed on flute and piccolo as a soloist, and in small and large ensemble settings, including the Alberta Winds, Red Deer Symphony, Lethbridge Symphony, the Calgary Civic Symphony, the Calgary Children’s Choir and as a guest soloist with the UofC Wind Ensemble and Alberta Winds. Her performances have brought her to stages such as the Jack Singer Concert Hall, Bella Concert Hall, the Winspear Centre, Banff Centre for Performing Arts, the Rozsa Centre, Festival Hall, the Rolston Exhibition Hall at the ROM, and the Washington Centre for Performing Arts.

With a strong affinity for theatre performance, Hilary carries over a decade of experience performing on flute, piccolo and alto flute with theatre projects in Calgary, including 7 years with the StoryBook Theatre, several productions with Front Row Centre Players, and with Broadway West where she also held the role of pianist/orchestral director.

Hilary draws from her experiences in the Academy Program for Young Artists at Mount Royal University, and earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Flute Performance, with distinction, from the University of Calgary. For 13 years, she was in high-demand as a successful clinician and managed a large home studio in flute, piano and music theory before closing the doors to focus on her family and raise 3 young children. Following this hiatus, Hilary is thoughtfully building her studio once again.

Enjoying her studies in piano and flute from an early age, Hilary developed a well rounded musical education under the guidance of wonderful teachers, including flautists Lauren Eselson, Ingrid Crozman, and Gwen Klassen; pianists Marcel Bergmann and Marilyn Engle; and ensemble directors Joe Slabe, Chris Herard, Gareth Jones, and Dr. Glenn D. Price.
