Joann Koh-Baker

Great music can point us to truth, goodness, and beauty. When I teach, I feel honored to be partaking in the revelation of a great work of art, discovering all the magical moments alongside my students with imagination, excitement and curiosity. I love teaching students of all ages. My students have been first place winners in Young Artist Musicians competitions; Winners of Excellence in East Central Ohio; First Class Honors with distinction in RCM; Outstanding music portfolio for college audition. I am active as a soloist and a guest lecture-artist, and have presented numerous recitals, master classes as well as conference papers in the U.S., Asia, Hawaii, Spain and Central America. I have served as an adjudicator for international and state piano competitions. Currently Professor of Music at Mount Vernon Nazarene University, my degrees include Ph.D. in Musicology and Master of Music in Music Theory (Boston University); Master of Music in piano performance-pedagogy (Ohio University); Bachelor of Arts (National University of Singapore); Licentiate Performer diplomas (Trinity College of Music and the London Royal Schools of Music).
