Teacher ARCT
I moved from the United States to Kingston in 1994 and have worked as a piano teacher, collaborative pianist and freelance scholarly editor. I am also the mother of three children and a published writer of poetry and short prose. I hold an Honours Degree with a Major in Music from Carleton College, Minnesota; a Master of Fine Arts in Musicology from Princeton University, New Jersey; the RCM Teacher’s ARCT diploma with First Class Honours; and a Graduate Certificate with Distinction in Creative Writing from Toronto's Humber School for Writers. I have also taught the Music For Young Children™ program. My music studies began with classical piano study at age 7, violin at age 10, as well as paid work as an accompanist at age 10. I have also studied organ, harpsichord and viola. I specialize in classes in Harmony, Counterpoint, Analysis and History, for students working toward RCM exams, as well as piano lessons and basic theory for ages 11 and up. My piano students have won awards at the Kiwanis Music Festival, and my theory and history students typically receive high marks on exams as well as university scholarships for music study. I welcome the opportunity to prepare you or your children in a structured way for exams, or simply to help you play the piano for enjoyment.
