Megan Thibeault is a versatile pianist and educator, who is passionate about exploring new ways to present, collaborate and explore music in our community. Originally from Newfoundland her musical endeavours have brought her to perform and study throughout North America. She has premiered many solo and ensemble pieces while collaborating with a wide range of composers from emerging artists to some who are internationally renowned such as Steve Reich and Missy Mazzoli. She is a two time finalist at the Eckhardt-Gramatté Competition and and has held fellowships with Bang On A Can, Nief-Norf New Music Festival, and the Banff Centre’s Ensemble Evolution, the Orford Music Academy as well as the New England Conservatory’s Summer Institute for Contemporary Performance Practice. As a teacher Megan is an enthusiastic and positive educator who encourages her students to discover the joys of music while helping them advance to their fullest potential. Megan completed her Masters of Music degree with acclaimed pianist David Jalbert at the University of Ottawa. She also holds an Artist Diploma at the University of British Columbia under the tutelage of Corey Hamm. She has pursued further studies with contemporary and classical piano music experts such as Nicolas Hodges, Jane Coop, André La Plante, Vicky Chow, and Maneli Pirzadeh. Megan is the pianist and co-artistic director of Halifax based Alkali Collective and is the current head of the piano department at The Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts. As a chamber musician Megan has worked and performed with the Bang On A Can All-Stars, the Ottawa Chamber Orchestra and toured with the Acadia University Wind Ensemble. She has received funding from Arts Nova Scotia and Canada Council for the Arts for her solo and collaborative projects.
