Michelle Wang is a dedicated pianist and music educator based in Oakville. She holds a Master’s degree in Piano Pedagogy from the University of Toronto, where she studied under Steven Philcox and Dr. Midori Koga. Specializing in the art of piano teaching, Michelle’s graduate work focused on how to effectively teach piano to students of all ages and levels. She also holds a Bachelor of Music Education under the mentorship of Dr. Megan Chang.
Michelle believes that music education should be meaningful, personal, and inspiring. Her teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that there is no one-size-fits-all approach—each lesson is thoughtfully tailored to the individual student’s goals, learning style, and musical background. She draws from a wide range of method books and resources to best support each student’s unique development. Michelle’s lessons integrate physical technique with theory, historical context, and personal connection to the music, fostering a well-rounded and deeply fulfilling musical journey.
Her students—ranging from young beginners to adults—have consistently earned RCM examination results of First Class Honours or higher and have excelled in performances, competitions, and festivals. Michelle herself has received several awards and scholarships at the OMFA, Peel Music Festival, and Contemporary Showcase.
As a recognized University of Toronto Scholar, Michelle was awarded the Earl Simard Scholarship and the Swee Kim Ang Memorial Scholarship for outstanding leadership and academic excellence in music education. She has taught both private and group lessons through the University of Toronto’s Piano Pedagogy Program and is well-versed in its curriculum and pedagogy.
In her graduate studies, Michelle presented a lecture-recital titled Beyond the Keys which explored the impact of multi-sensory learning strategies for early piano students. She currently maintains a vibrant private studio in Oakville and remains active as a community performer and pedagogue.
