Nila Azar is an accomplished cellist, pianist, and certified RCM Elementary Piano Teacher based in Vancouver, BC. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Music from the UBC School of Music, where she received multiple scholarships in recognition of her academic and artistic achievements. Her musical journey began at the Tehran Music Conservatory, and she has been playing the cello for over ten years.
She has received multiple UBC scholarships awarded to string-instrument majors, recognizing academic excellence, demonstrated leadership, performance proficiency, and contributions to the School of Music. In addition, she received scholarships from the UBC Music Summer Camp and the North Shore Music Academy for two consecutive years. Throughout her career, Nila has had the opportunity to work with esteemed musicians from diverse musical backgrounds, including Eric Wilson, Liane Langton, Marina Thibeault, Diane Sanford, Jonathan Der, Miranda Wong, Corey Hamm, Hyejung Jun, Neil Craighead, and Bo Peng.
Nila performed with the UBC Symphony Orchestra for five years and was part of their international tour to Germany. She currently plays gigs as part of a family-based musical duo. She has also participated in the Vancouver Bach Festival, performed at local fundraising galas, and played in numerous string chamber groups throughout Vancouver.
With a decade of teaching experience, Nila offers instruction in cello, piano, music theory, and group classes for children. Her teaching emphasizes structure, accuracy, technique, and musicianship, while adapting to individual learning styles and creating a supportive, engaging environment.
