In addition to my musical background I have extensive experience in the academic world, with degrees in psychology (BA), educational psychology (MA), and Interdisciplinary Studies (PhD). In addition to academic journal articles, I have recently published three philosophically oriented books about spiritualty.... 2019 is my fortieth year of teaching music, mainly piano, musical theory and composition, but also occasionally voice and organ. Most of this time was as a registered music teacher in BC. I have studied piano, organ, voice, composition, and sacred music (Gregorian Chant), with music degrees in piano performance (LTCL), composition (B. Mus, from McGill), and sacred music (BGC). While at McGill University (Montreal) I had the great good fortune to study piano with one of the foremost pianists of the early twentieth century, Lubka Kolessa, a student of two of Liszt's most renowned students (Eugen D'Albert and Emil von Sauer) as well as Louis Thern. ), Also, upon graduating from McGill I won two national awards for composition (my composition teachers included Dr. Bruce Mather and composer, Harry Freedman). I have been a member of both the Canadian League of Composers and The Canadian Music Centre since the mid 1970's. Over the years a number of students have won various local and provincial awards (in piano and theory), as well as national awards in composition. Many have become professional musicians and music teachers. My teaching philosophy is very much oriented towards working with each student as a uniquely gifted individual.
