Rafael Oei

Originally from Singapore, I now reside in beautiful Victoria, British Columbia. I have been teaching music and piano since 1986, and am able to conduct lessons virtually, online as well, if that is your preference - especially in these uncertain times. I offer students interested in pursuing the graded levels of music and piano, the popular Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto (RCM) syllabus of examinations, with experience in preparing students also for the Trinity College or the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) syllabus. Otherwise, lessons may include anything from contemporary popular music, the classics, rock, and jazz – just for fun. I hold a Licentiate in Performing from the Trinity College of Music, London, and a B.A. (Hons) in Theatre Studies and the Dramatic Arts with music components, I play the organ, am the Music Director at Sacred Heart Church, Victoria BC since 2003, and a member of SOCAN. I am a member of the Victorian Branch of the British Columbia Registered Music Teachers’ Association (BCRMTA) holding the office of President, as well as Membership Chair. Broadening my professional scope, I entered the world of broadcasting in Singapore for 13 years, which led to a career in academia as a radio broadcast lecturer and section head for seven years, where I continued to research to keep my students abreast of the evolving technological landscape in broadcasting that led me to complete my Doctorate in Social Science & Communications.
