Stephanie DeCiantis, M.Mus, B.Mus
Stephanie DeCiantis is a dramatic soprano praised for her “powerful voice” (Jake Evans, The Intelligencer) and “lush musical ebb and flow” (Opera Canada). She holds a Master of Music in Literature and Performance and a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance from the University of Western Ontario.
Stephanie has gained recognition across Canada and internationally. She was a laureate of the Jeunes Ambassadeurs Lyriques, a semi-finalist in the Elizabeth Connell Prize for Dramatic Sopranos, the Francisco Araiza Sonora International Opera Competition, and the Vincerò World Singing Competition, and a prizewinner at the Gabriela Beňačková International Vocal Competition. She has sung in masterclass for Sondra Radvanovsky, supported by the IRCPA Joan Hall Scholarship.
Performance highlights include Leonora (Il trovatore), Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni with Brott Opera and the Canadian Institute of Czech Music), Senta (Der Fliegende Holländer), Nedda (Pagliacci), the Overseer (Elektra), and soloist in Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 14. She has also performed at the Meermusik Festival in Düsseldorf and with ensembles such as the Burlington Symphony Orchestra, York Symphony Orchestra, and Kindred Spirits Orchestra.
In her private studio, Stephanie specializes in vocal training with a focus on classical singing. She works with adults and children alike, as well as professional and emerging artists and those who simply have a passion for singing. Lessons emphasize healthy technique — resonance, breath support, diction, and dramatic expression — while nurturing confidence and artistry. Her students have gone on to win major competitions, including Peel Festival, Ontario Music Festival Provincials, and the International Music Festival and Competition, and have been accepted into leading universities such as the University of Toronto, Western University, and Laurier University.
Stephanie’s studio is also known for ambitious and theatrical recital projects, including excerpts from The Magic Flute and The Pirates of Penzance, and a full Act II of Die Fledermaus. These productions create unique opportunities for students to develop stage presence and collaboration skills.
In addition to voice, Stephanie enjoys teaching high-level music theory up to RCM level 10, helping students build strong analytical and compositional skills, and continues to offer piano instruction up to RCM Grade 7.
Stephanie creates a welcoming, professional, and inspiring environment where singers of all levels can thrive — from aspiring professionals to those who simply love to sing.
