Sindy has been teaching since 2005 and has worked with students of all ages and abilities. Whether helping students preparing for exams or adults checking off the piano on their bucket list, she searches to design a long-range plan that will guide each student to achieve their goals. Her highest intention is to help students find their own voice and develop a life long love of music. She has taught students as young as age 4 and have success working with special needs students. She loves meeting students where they are at and helping them become the best musicians they can be. In Sindy's lessons, students learn the language of music and acquire skills specific to piano playing. She helps students build their music vocabulary so that they can comprehend music by sight and ears, and be able to create their own story through sound. A wide range of repertoire including jazz, pop and classical are explored. Lessons are tailored to focus on whatever genre that brings students joy and gets them to the piano bench. She lives for the moments when students make an emotional response and personal connection to music. Looking back, Sindy realises music lessons has given her so much more than the ability to make music. It builds her confidence and resilience, teaching her all great things come with hard work. Beautiful music deepens her affection and expands her imagination. It provides her a safe outlet to express how she feels. The wealth of music awakens her curiosity and creativity. Over the years she has formed many wonderful friendships because of music. Music enriches her life. Sindy is so lucky to receive these gifts under the tutelage of many great teachers, who encouraged and inspired her to be the person she has become. Because of them, she would love to recreate the music education she had and pass on these gifts to her students. Sindy holds an Associate and Licentiate Diploma in Piano Performance from Trinity College London. She earned a double degree from the University of Hong Kong with a minor in Music. Sindy’s students have won competitions at provincial and national level. She adjudicates at festivals and is the collaborative pianist of Mosaic Trio with cellist Christina Bakanec and clarinetist Vanessa Klassen. She was the President of the Saskatchewan Registered Music Teachers West Central branch and held positions at local music festival. Sindy is grateful to be living her dream to promote music wherever she lives. Right now she lives in Calgary, Alberta. She can speak English, Cantonese and Mandarin fluently.
