Ms. Yang Cheng is a dually certified piano instructor by both The Royal Conservatory of Music
(RCM) and the Central Conservatory of Music, and is also a certified teacher of the RCM Smart
Start Program. She is the founder of the Alberta International Young Artists Association
(AIYAA), where she leads the AIYAA International Youth Music Festival and various
community initiatives that collectively engage over 1,000 participants each year.
A dedicated piano educator, respected adjudicator, and accomplished concert pianist, Ms. Cheng
is a tireless advocate for young musicians in Alberta. She is particularly committed to early
music education for underprivileged children and promotes cultural integration and anti-
discrimination through specialized programming.
Her approach to teaching combines piano technique, stage performance, chamber music
collaboration, and stage performance, ensuring both technical proficiency and artistic excellence.
Under her mentorship, students have excelled in major competitions such as the Canada Music
Competition, Alberta Music Competition, Edmonton Music Competition, Western Canada Music
Competition, and the Canada Steinway Piano Competition. Many have also performed concertos
alongside symphony orchestras.
