Yoko Johnsen-Sollos

I have been teaching piano to a wide range of students including preschoolers and adults since 2014. I like to get to know my students so that I can tailor my lessons to their individual learning style and musical taste. I love the wholistic approach of the RCM curriculum, although I also use my own creative method as well as Faber Piano Adventures in my teaching. Taking the RCM exams pretty recently myself (comprehensive level 10 piano certificate with first class honours in 2022, with the theory component with distinction), I have the hands-on experience to guide my students to success if they would like to take the exams. I strive to make it a non-stressful, but rewarding experience! Even when some students are not interested in taking the RCM exams, I would love to teach them some wonderful pieces from the RCM repertoire and etudes. I also custom arrange my students' favorite songs so they are playable for them, whether movie, pop, anime, or video game music. I am also fascinated by music theory and harmony. Again, with my recent hands-on experience, I would love to teach separate theory lessons and prepare my students for the theory exams. I also speak Japanese, Norwegian, and some Spanish.
