Yoomi Kim

Pianist, conductor, and composer Yoomi Kim received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance at the University of Cincinnati where she also completed her Master of Music degree in Conducting with choral emphasis. In addition, she had the privilege of working with Dr. Joel Hoffman, composition faculty chair at the University of Cincinnati, for her cognate degree in Composition. Dr. Kim holds her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in Piano Performance from the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University and the University of Montreal respectively. She has studied piano intensively under the tutelage of Dr. Robert McDonald, Professor Marc Durand, and Professors Eugene and Elisabeth Pridonoff. Dr. Kim’s conducting skills have been developed under the guidance of Dr. Earl Rivers and Dr. Stephen Coker. She has been invited to participate in a number of international orchestral conducting masterclasses, including ones taught by Maestro Ed Spanjaard and Maestro Kenneth Kiesler. Through these masterclasses, Dr. Kim has had the opportunity to conduct the Berlin Sinfonietta and Budapest Symphony Orchestra MAV. As a music director, Dr. Kim has taught chamber orchestra, choir, and piano at the Lester B. Pearson United World College of the Pacific where she has also composed and arranged music for the college’s various concerts. As a pianist, she has been teaching at the Victoria Conservatory of Music.
