The Phil and Eli Taylor Performance Academy for Young Artists provides advanced young classical musicians with unique access to performance opportunities, exceptional mentorship, and superior musical training. Under the guidance of the highest-calibre teachers and artists, Taylor Academy students have the opportunity to explore and develop their musical talents within a supportive community of like-minded peers, which fosters lifelong friendships.

Over 85% of our graduates go on to study music in post-secondary school, making The Taylor Academy the perfect nurturing environment for serious young classical musicians.

  • Key Dates

    The Taylor Academy opens applications in January for the following September, with auditions taking place in May.

  • Applications and Auditions

    Applicants invited to audition will be asked to prepare several contrasting pieces - there is no technical component (e.g. scales) to the audition. Applicants may take a theory placement test on the day of their audition, or may provide RCM theory exam results as proof of theory level. These are used for placement purposes only, and will not be shown to jurors.

  • Entrance Requirements

    Successful applicants to The Taylor Academy display outstanding musical talent and an exceptional level of technical proficiency for their age group, as well as a strong commitment to learn and excel in their discipline. A large number already have considerable competition and performance experience prior to entering The Taylor Academy. The Taylor Academy does not designate specific prerequisites in terms of RCM practical grade levels; applicants should choose repertoire that best reflects their skill and areas of strength.

    There is no theory or history pre-requisite for acceptance into the program. Students accepted to The Taylor Academy are provided with a course of musical theory and history study that corresponds to their level of experience.

    The Taylor Academy accepts students in the following disciplines:

    Disciplines Accepted
    Junior Academy: Ages 8 to 13

    Other Instruments: Not Accepted

    Senior Academy: Ages 14 to 18

  • Tuition and Financial Aid

    Financial Assistance is Available to All Taylor Academy Students

    The table below outlines the program cost for each level, the financial assistance available, and the final amount payable by the student.

    2020-21 Program Fees

    Financial Aid

    In addition to the scholarship received by all students (see table above), further financial assistance is available, allotted on the basis of need and/or merit. Students who require additional assistance must submit a financial aid application (included in the acceptance package).

    Payment Schedule

    Upon acceptance, every student is required to pay a $300 non-refundable deposit to secure their spot for the coming September. The remaining tuition is outlined in a contract sent in the summer, and is payable by one of three methods:

    • One payment, due at the beginning of the first semester (September)
    • Two payments, due at the beginning of each semester (September and January)
    • Eight payments, due on the first of the month (September to April)

    Other Fees

    • All new applicants are required to submit a non-refundable application fee of $150.00 with their application form (or $200.00 for late applications).
    • All returning students are required to submit a non-refundable application fee of $125 with their jury application form.
    • All students are charged a library fee of $100 per year in addition to tuition fees.
    • Some elective course options may be subject to an additional activity fee.
