All finalists have earned the opportunity to perform as a soloist with the Royal Conservatory Orchestra during the 2026-27 season

2026 Corcoran Winners

Students from The Royal Conservatory’s Glenn Gould School (GGS) competed in the final round of the annual Robert W. and G. Ann Corcoran Concerto Competition in Koerner Hall on January 20, 2026. The finalists each received a $2,000 cash prize and an invaluable opportunity to perform as a soloist during the 2026-27 Royal Conservatory Orchestra concert season. 

After a preliminary round of performances that included 35 students, and a semi-final round of seven students, there were four finalists in this year’s competition:  
 
  • Alyssa Bartholomew, ADP ‘26, soprano | Studio of Stephanie Bogle | Recipient of The Ho Pladsen Family Scholarship
  • Mira Kardan, BMus ‘28, cello | Studio of Hans Jørgen Jensen and Andrés Diaz | Recipient of The Renette & David Berman Scholarships
  • Shyler Macaggi, ADP ‘27, viola | Studio of Steven Dann | Recipient of The Temerty Foundation Scholarships
  • Anna Yin, BMus ’29, violin | Studio of Jonathan Crow | Recipient of The David C. Kennedy Scholarship, The Glenn Gould Faculty Scholarship, The George Brough Scholarship, and The Roly Young Scholarship
The prestigious Corcoran Grand Prize of $5,000 was awarded to Anna Yin, a first-year Bachelor of Music, Performance (Honours) violin student. Ms. Yin was presented with the award by Mr. Robert Corcoran following her performance of Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 35 (1945) by Erich Wolfgang Korngold, performed with pianist Jerry Hu, a fellow GGS student.

2026 Winners
A panel of internationally acclaimed musicians adjudicated all rounds of the event. The Finalist judges included clarinetist and Juno winner, James Campbell; distinguished pianist and Order of Canada recipient Jane Coop​; Canadian soprano and Grammy nominee Karina Gauvin and internationally accomplished cellist, Raphael Wallfisch.
