12-year-old Audrey Sung gives back to music education
Vancouver-born Audrey Sung began her musical journey at the age of 6 with composer, pianist, and educator Edward Han Jiang and is currently preparing for her advanced level RCM examinations. After briefly living in China, she studied with professor Beihua Tang and internationally acclaimed pianist Shikun Liu. A talented performer, Audrey has taken the competition circuit by storm winning multiple international piano competitions including gold in the junior category of the Pacific Rim International Music Festival and the Grand Prize of the P. I. Tchaikovsky Memorial Award (children) at the International Music Competition for Young Pianists.
To help create more opportunities for other young aspiring musicians, Audrey generously gifted a portion of her performance earnings to The Royal Conservatory at a presentation on September 21, 2022. At the presentation, Audrey performed three works including “A Moonlit Night on the Spring River” arranged by her teacher Mr. Jiang from the new Celebration Series®, Sixth Edition (Piano Repertoire 9, List D). With her gift, Audrey hopes to share her love of music through providing access to music education.
“This gift is special because it represents a lot of what The Royal Conservatory believes in,” explains Eric Yeung, Vice President, Marketing, who attended the presentation, “We truly believe that music education makes a difference in the development of children's minds and music lessons are a special time that leave a lasting impression, both in terms of creating special memories as well as developing human potential.”
