Songs from The Journey is an extraordinary production featuring the greatest hits from The Journey Musical that was performed at Daniels Spectrum in Regent Park from 2013 to 2018.
The Journey Musical chronicled the transformation of Regent Park, Canada’s oldest and largest social housing project, into a vibrant, thriving community. With each production, storylines evolved to reflect the ongoing revitalization, highlighting significant milestones in the transformation of the community. Using a powerful combination of drama, spoken word, music and dance, the musical was brought to life by talented local artists and world-class performers.
The Journey Musical wasn’t just a musical. It was also a catalyst for change, raising over $4.4 million to support Daniels Spectrum, Regent Park’s dynamic hub of arts and culture.
Now, an exciting new chapter is unfolding as Songs from The Journey takes its inaugural leap to a new location. For the first time, the melodies and stories beating within the heart of Regent Park will grace the stage at the prestigious Koerner Hall at the TELUS Centre for Performance and Learning.
Songs from The Journey not only entertains but also shines a spotlight on the intersection of arts and community development. Highlighting the transformation of the community as new buildings rise, local economies flourish and social programs thrive, Songs from The Journey pays homage to the resilience of the Regent Park community. Audience members will gain an appreciation for the profound impact of community involvement in shaping the future of urban spaces.
Emerging powerhouse performers Trevlyn Kennedy and Stacy Darko will be sharing the stage with Canadian icon Jackie Richardson, as well as Charlotte Siegel, a rising star at The Canadian Opera Company.
Songs from The Journey will captivate the audience through a compelling narrative written by Mitchell Cohen, Heela Omarkhail, and Trevlyn Kennedy with Creative Direction by Apolonia Velasquez.
Songs composed by Mitchell Cohen and Henry Heillig will be performed by The Journey Orchestra, led by Music Director Henry Heillig.
